This is known as the Minnesota 38 or the Dakota 38
Lincoln ordered the hanging of 39 Dakota Indians for murders committed during the US Dakota War of 1862.
Gen. SIBLEY reprieved, or rather respited the sentence of TA-TAY-ME-MA, changing the condemned to 38.
