Take a moment to watch this clip of Chris Singleton in Buffalo who was there to talk about racism and gun violence with local school students after the May 14, 2022 shooting at Tops.

You’ll notice that they interview him in front of a wall with 1947 on it which is curious for multiple reasons. For one, it is the year the CIA was established (September 18, 1947). And for two, it is the year Jackie Robinson was called up to white Major League Baseball (April 15, 1947). Of course, Chris Singleton is known for being a baseball player who would have made it to the major leagues if the tragedy in Charleston hadn’t taken him off of his path. And just like Jackie Robinson dealt with racism in 1947, Chris is dealing with it now.
